The 12-second video starts with the song “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X. “Gonna take my horse to the old town road….”. The music makes sense when you see what the camera is capturing. There’s a horse-sized alligator. And a man sporting a cowboy hat is sitting on the back of the alligator!

Horse-Sized Alligator

The alligator in the video is easily 12 feet long and could easily weigh over 500 pounds! American alligators are crocodilians that only live in the United States. They can weigh as much as 1,000 pounds, and males are usually larger than females.  The video’s camera angle offers a bird’s eye view of the man sitting at the back of the alligator’s body. You don’t see the man’s face, just glimpses of his big beard. Even without seeing his face, you can tell he’s comfortable. It’s like he’s been riding alligators all his life. The man calmly straddles the gator like a horse. He has a chicken leg in one hand and a thin stick in the other.

Alligator Teeth and Armored Tail

In the video, you’ll notice the man is sitting far away from the head and all of those teeth! Fun fact; as alligators wear out their teeth, they replace them. Alligators go through as many as 3,000 teeth in their lifetime.  The man is wise to stay away from the alligator’s tail too. One swipe from an alligator tail could be fatal. The armored tail is long and thick and can break human bones.

Feeding Time

Holding the big bloody chicken leg, the man gently slaps the alligator’s side. The alligator snaps and twists back to grab the meat but can’t reach it. The man slaps the gator again, getting it to start moving in a circle. The alligator is so giant its lumbering body doesn’t go far. Eventually, the alligator get’s the chicken leg! The man’s hand feeds the alligator, holding on to the tip of the bone to keep his fingers as far away from the mouth as possible. In captivity, alligators love chicken, but in the wild, alligators eat marsh rabbits, crayfish, red-bellied turtles, and more. Female alligators are partial to rabbits. For instance, in northcentral Florida, female alligators eat more mammals than males.

See for Yourself

When you’re watching the video, look at the alligator’s feet. They’re so big! The legs look like pure muscle. It makes you wonder what would happen if this gator suddenly started to do a death roll! It’s a spine-tingling video, for sure. Would you sit on the back of an alligator and slap it with a chicken leg? Watch this guy do it in the video below!
